Medical Alerts

Waxing is a safe and effective form of hair removal, with very few side effects for most people. However taking certain medications and skin types can be more prone to side effects than others. As with any treatment of this nature, certain risks and complications from known and unknown causes could occur. Please consult with a physician if you have any concerns.

Possible/Common Side Effects:

Side effects include, but are not limited to: mild-moderate redness, itchiness, hives, swelling, mild-moderate breakout (whiteheads/red bumps), lifting, scabbing, bruising, stinging, and tenderness. Most side effects are temporary and generally subside in 24-72 hours.

Reactions:

Normal reactive areas and reactions: Brazilian/bikini, face, chest, back, legs - Redness, pimples, breakouts, rashes, itching, stubble on legs.

Unusual, but still normal reactions: Welts, hives, rash lasting longer than 3 days.

How to work through reactions: Wax regularly every 2-4 weeks, depending on the area and the skin will acclimate. Normal breakouts diminish over time.

Home Care:

If any side effects occur, it is recommended to use an antibiotic ointment for mild-moderate breakouts and lifting. For itching, and stinging on areas, it is recommended to use a hydrocortisone ointment. However, avoid the inner labia area. You may also use an acne spot treatment, witch hazel, or tea tree oil for bumps/breakouts that occur on the face.

Prescription/OTC Medicines and Products:

It is extremely important to let me know prior to your waxing service if you are currently using or have used within the past 7 days any of the following medications: Retinol, Retin-A, Tazorac, AHA’s, any form of Vitamin A, Benzoyl Peroxide (clinical G).

Any other topical or oral medications used to treat acne and anti-aging, and any home or medical grade peels. These can adversely affect the outcome of your waxing service. I will not wax you if you are on or have taken Accutane within the past 6 months.

Menstruation:

Having your period does not mean you need to reschedule your waxing appointment. We ask that you arrive freshly showered with a tampon or cup in securely in place.

Gastric Issues:

If you are prone to have Heart Burn this can change the skins pH level to be more acidic, sometimes resulting in a burn or causing the skin to lift during the waxing process. Taking an antacid 45 minutes prior to waxing may help prevent side effects. Consult your physician if you are concerned.
